what we believe

What we believe makes us who we are because our beliefs shape and inform our worldview by which we act.

What we make of God has a huge impact on the way we live.

So for us, theology is practical.

It changes who we are, what we do, and what we love. It shapes our worldview.

For this reason, we want to give you a summary of our core beliefs - the foundational truths we believe.

We use the language of “closed hand” and “open hand". Closed hand beliefs are those about which the Bible is abundantly clear and the Church throughout history has understood to be the core of true, orthodox, evangelical Christianity. These are non-negotiable.

Open hand beliefs are those on which Jesus-loving, Bible-trusting Christians can legitimately disagree. So, in closed hand beliefs, we have unity; in open hand beliefs, we have diversity and charity.

In all of our beliefs, we promote an attitude of boldness with humility and love.

These are our closed handed beliefs:

The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

2. GOD

The existence of one God eternally in trinity; three persons (three in one, one in three), God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The deity and incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, the promised Messiah, the second person of the Holy Trinity.

God has created all humans in his image. He has created them uniquely female and male.

5. SIN

The fallen, sinful and lost state of all people both inherited from Adam and actual in our lives.

The salvation of men and women from eternal death and judgment as the penalty and power of sin through the perfect obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ, His sacrificial, atoning death as a propitiation and expiation, His resurrection from the dead, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His unchanging priesthood to save sinners like you and me.

The work of the Holy Spirit in the regeneration of men and women, their adoption by God, in their sanctification, and in their preservation to the heavenly Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A true Christian will stay a Christian forever. God won't ever stop loving his children.

The necessity of repentance, turning away from sin and towards God, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, as a work and gift of God's grace and power for salvation.

The resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment of all people by the Lord Jesus Christ.

The universal church is a spiritual community (family). It is made up of all Christians everywhere for all time.

We believe the establishment of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament, so we love supporting and planting local churches across Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and the World. We believe local churches should be self-governed.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, are reminders commanded by Jesus for all who follow him.

For us, Baptism is the immersion in water of believers upon the profession of their repentance of sin and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and a symbol of the fellowship of the regenerate in His death, burial and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper is a visual, present memorial in bread and wine/juice, until He comes, of the sacrifice of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
